While in my car driving this week I was having a conversation with my mom that struck my heart. She was sharing with me regarding some big decisions she was about to make and made a statement that took me back a few weeks ago when I sat in the Amazon Jungle.
She said, “I need to go listen to the ‘Silence’, so I can hear the voice of the Lord.”
Instantly, I knew what she was talking about. You see, just a few weeks ago I sat in the isolated rivers of the Amazon, listening to the ‘Silence’.
All around me were wide open jungles, unrestricted wild, untamed disease and uncontrolled unknown.
The unchartered territory that I had entered was beyond my control and the air was deathly silent. The solitude and stillness of the jungle embraced the gentle current of the river in perfect harmony.
As I sat in my canoe soaking in the still reality, my heart slowed just enough that I finally heard the ‘Silence’.
Just weeks before my journey, I had been overwhelmed on numerous occasions with unrelenting circumstances, emotional turmoil and just downright hard decisions. Nothing that I foresaw coming and there was nothing I could change. It was like the noise took charge and all I could do was hold onto Jesus and pray I responded like a Christian!
Life was just overwhelming.
Ever feel this way?
Exhausted by the untamed, stressed in your wild circumstances, and overwhelmed by the unknown?
If not, then wait about 5 minutes and re-read this blog.
Life is full of struggles that are real, unrelenting noise, and trials that keep us facedown crying out to Jesus.
Yet, as I sat in that canoe, surrounded by a different wild, God spoke to me in the ‘Silence’.
When we set in His river held by the canoe of God;
We are Safe…
We are Loved…
We are Held…
There is NOTHING that can come out from the chaos of the jungle of life that we are not protected from.
He will ALWAYS Sustain us…
He will ALWAYS Keep us…
He will ALWAYS Guide us…
He will ALWAYS Be With us…
This is HIS Promise.
He took me from one wild jungle to another, thousands of miles away so He could teach me to listen to the ‘Silence’, so I could hear HIM speak.
What about you?
Are you distracted by the chaos or undone by the loudness of your circumstances?
Can I encourage you today?
Stop
Find His river
Climb into the canoe of His presence and listen to the ‘Silence’.
I promise, He is there, quietly waiting.
In the ‘Silence’ you will find Him gently speaking.
He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:11-13
